Three hours of troubleshooting!  Thank you so much for this post!!!!

I changed the php.ini filename to php5.ini and it worked beautifully! Thank you so much again.

Thanks in advance with this post, brilliant.

Having a wierd problem. I have downloaded my PHP.ini file and all I see in it is this:

rg_emulation=off

Nothing else, is there an issue with this. I have used two different ftp clients, and also used the ftp client in godaddys control panel, but it says the same as well.

Anyone run into this problem.

Justin I don't think there's anything wrong. You need to add the extra lines.

I am having some very similar problems.  I am sorry if I have overlooked this, Ive looked over this thread many times.  I am hosting with Godaddy Linux.  I have PHP 5.2.5 and I have followed all the original steps listed by the first post.  I have done everything manually but when I got the part where I needed to edit the php.ini file it is not there.  Should it be?  Or do I need to create it?  Any advice would be very helpful.

if it's not there you need to create it. Sometimes you have to name it php5.ini

To check if the file is being used at all you go to phpinfo in Joomla help, system info and find the php.ini path that is being used.
