Hi,

I am working on setting up JReviews 2.0 on a Joomla 1.5.2 installation.
my site:   http://www.digiscrapinfo.com/joomla/

I have created a left menu (Online Photo Resources) that should only appear when I am accessing the review information by specifying the menu assignment in the menu module.  The left menu shows correctly for when I am browsing around at category level or seeing recently added items.  But as soon as I click on a particular item to view the details of that item, the left menu disappears.

Is there a setting I am missing?

Read the Knowledge base article titled "menus and modules and Itemids". It also applies to J1.5. One downside of using Joomla content within jReviews is that you need to created a core section or category menu so that each article inherits it's menu id (Itemid). Then when you assign a module that you want to maintain even at the article level you need to assign it to the core section/category menus as well.

Thank you for directing me.  After reading, pondering, and trying out a few things, I now have my menus set up and working correctly.

Okay, I have it figured out that everything works correctly if I have in main menu that links to a core category list.   But the category list is very ugly compared to the joomla review link (like the thumbnail view.)    I really would like my main menu links to take me to the joomla review thumbnail list.

Is there a trick to using only joomla reviews menus and keeping things assigned to the "core section/category menus" without showing the users the core category menus?

(website is still the same.  All jreview stuff is under Printing Resources)

You need to setup a hidden menu like I did on the demo site. You can see it at http://demo.reviewsforjoomla.com/administrator even if it's Joomla 1.0.x, the same concept applies. Just don't publish the module for the hidden menu.

I think this Knowledgebase takes care of most of my issue with modules not showing up, but i don't understand the very last part:

Quote
3) It's not enough to create just a jReviews category or section list menu, you must create the com_content equivalent, because content page links will not use the Itemids for menus you create for jReviews, they will use the Itemids for menus created for com_content lists.

And i think this relates to the last part of my issue.  I now have my modules showing up correctly for all sections and category listings, since I have added a hidden menu which includes "BlogSection" lists for each Joomla section.  But what does it mean when you say create menus for com_content lists?  I think I am missing this part which may fix my issue...

Thanks as always for your support...

What I meant by com_content lists is the core content lists, which is what you already did. What's the last part of your issue?

The problem i am having now is my modules not showing up when looking at an actual content/review item in jReviews.  The modules are there for section and category lists as they should be, but once you click on a jReviews content/review item, the (left) modules are gone.  For example, if you go to http://hotspotvibe.com/stl, click on Restaurants, the left menu modules are there (login form, category menu, adsense/html module, etc).  Then when you click on a review item for details, none of the left modules remain.  This is probably just something I am missing, any ideas?  Is there a way to assign these left modules to content items within a specific section or category?

Also, I logged into the jReviews demo site, and yours looks like it is working properly, and I don't see anything you did differently in the backend.  I have my hidden_menu set up pretty much just like yours, but your demo site's content items have all your left side modules still there...

Maybe this is related to my SEF component?  Have not tried disabling yet to see if this is related...

Thanks again

You need to make sure you assign your modules to both the hidden menus and the non-hidden ones.

Yes - the modules are assigned to both the hidden_menu and mainmenu...  As shown in the screenshots below, the review/content item does not have any left modules.  It should be showing left modules that are assigned to that content item's corresponding section/category menu, correct?  Also, i tried disabling my SEF component, and the issue remains...

To troubleshoot this you need to track the Itemids. Choose a content. What is the Itemid of it's section blog menu? What is the Itemid of the content link? Do you have any menus in the trash, if so purge all of them.

Guess this might be a little over my head...  Checked the Trash and their are no menus...

I checked on a content item, "Bar 101" under section "Bars, Clubs, & Nightlife".  Looks like the Item ID for this specific content's blog section menu is 113.  But the link to that content/review item, as well as the other listings in this section, looks like it is pointing to ItemID 103.  What could be causing this?  Guess i need to learn a little more about Joomla's "inner workings"!

wow... ok - figured it out.  I feel so silly, somethin so simple.

I am using the SectionNav module for my category menu's under each section, and did not have all my modules assigned to that menu list.  That took care of it.  Thanks for bearing with me on that, i definately learned a bit!
