Picture the scenario, I am running lets say a hotel directory using Sobi2 and jReviews + jReviewsEverywhere is providing the review functionality. Somebody posts a review of a hotel and the hotel owner wishes to respond. The hotel may have 20 reviews but the owner only wants to reply to that one.

What is the best way of allowing and importantly controlling responses/comments to individual reviews?

Not looking for exact code, more the methodology and process I should be considering.

Ideally, this would be built-into jReviews and I would like to do that eventually, together with review discussions which is a different functionality altogether. Right now, there's no way to do this that comes to mind. Similar functionality is enabled by the Fireboard addon, but it doesn't work with jReviewsEverywhere and it's not something that's easy to change. I had already looked into it in the past.

Alejandro was able to reply to the sole 4-star review on the Joomla site.

A user could comment on a review, maybe to correct a factual error or offer a different opinion without writing an entire review.

update:  I contacted Jom Comment.  Mark said he could attempt a hack.  I hope someone tries it.  If your site reviews businesses, giving them a chance to reply is crucial.

Thanks.

soderbz: Did you by any chance hear anything new from Mark about the hack?

I don't have a website yet, so I didn't send him anything.  He said when I was ready, to give him backend access and he would try.  I'm stuck at the moment wondering if I should wait for the 2.0 free trial or just go ahead and pay.  I'm a beginner and don't have a clue.

Hi,

I'd love to see a owner comment function in JReviews. My site uses SOBI2 and JRE to review local businesses including local restaurants. To offer the owner a chance to reply to negative reviews is going to become very crucial to the success of my site.

Cheers!

I think there are three important features to be added to jReviews, and they'll be added over time only to jReviews 2.x

1) Ability for users to claim ownership of a listing. I've already added the capability to change the owner under the listings moderation for the upcoming 2.x version. Later on the claim functionality will be added.

2) Ability for owners to reply to a user review

3) Ability for users to discuss/comment on a review.

I will add these, but I don't know when.

It's great news. I'm going to find something else to occupy me for a while.  I'm waiting for the 2.0 preview also. Thanks.

Was this built into the new version of jreviews?

No, that post is 2 weeks old and I am not that fast  Grin I will only add these things once I release a stable version. I am not going to mess with the code before that because I am likely to add too many bugs and delay the stable version indefinitely.

Would it be possible, as a start, to have a separate template listing each review individually? With this method it might be possible to integrate jomcomment into the reviews, (not the listings), because the reviews could be viewed on their own pages.

That is the correct approach and everything is possible if you can code Wink When I have time, I will add the review discussion capability. I don't know when that will be though.
