Title: Finally, I think its done.
Post by: Blackartist on July 26, 2007, 05:25:41 PM
Well guys, I finally think my site is done:

http://www.newvisioninternet.com (http://www.newvisioninternet.com)

take a look, any bugs/erros let me know and I'll get em fixed.

A major thanks to Alejandro who made it possible with his amazing component and modules.

If you vote its not bad, but... can you explain why? It helps me make it a better user experience.

BA

Nice layout of the site,

Just a little something i saw on this page:
http://www.newvisioninternet.com/reviews/s/the-shooter/
You have 2 "Home" links, one goes to the site homepage and the other goes to blogsection/reviews, you might want to change the name of one of the "Home" links.

shaul.

Yeah Its annoying tbh I don't know how to sort that out, I have my Home, link as a blog section, and as a consequence it created 2 Homes :( I'll take a look at that very soon. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks very much :) I'm still fine tuning it, some little problems like the home links etc.

A quick tip on how I deal with home links so they all really point to www.domain.com.

Don't use the mainmenu in any of your menu modules.

As everyone knows, the first menu in the main menu ends up being your site's homepage. In your case the left home menu points to http://www.newvisioninternet.com/blogsection/reviews/ because you are using a blogsection as the frontpage.

1) Unpublish the module you are currently using for the mainmenu
2) Create a new menu container and move all your mainmenu links, except the first one which is the home page, to the new menu container.
3) Create a new menu of type link url in the new menu container and point it to www.domain.com and call it Home, then move it to the first position.

For your other home menus also do 3.

Finally, please create a new post in the tips & tricks board regarding this when you get it working :)

ok, thanks for that info Alejandro, I sensed a little sarcasm in this statement ;)

As everyone knows,

because I didn't :P

My main and only problem atm is the Dropping text in the Discussion Forum.

Cheers.

No sarcasm intended :)

Actually I have just done that procedure you have described and I cannot replicate the site as it was originally, yes it gets rid of the 2 home links, but I then cannot have a blog section on the frontpage as I have now, so I'm sticking with my original , I'll have to live with the 2 home links, becuase it provides a better user experience.

The way to keep your home page as the blogsection you already have is to leave it in the mainmenu "menu container" and published. Just unpublish the main menu module.

OK well I didn't wait until tomorrow, and its still shows two homes,

My template has mainmenu hardcoded into that actual postion although I can change it to mainmenu2, I then followed your procedure but it still has two home links if I click on a review from the homepage.

I really am at a loss.

I see the different home on the top menu, where is it coming from and why can't you just change it to a url type menu pointing to the same www.domain.com?

I'm not sure I understand, but the Home link you can see is actually pointing too http://www.newvisioninternet.com, which is in a module called mainmenu2, I've unpublished the mainmenu module but left the Home (blog section) published in that.

The template I'm using has mainmenu hardcoded into it, I've changed that to mainmenu2 and it does show that new menu, but like you can see its got 2 homes.

Honestly, its bizarre, but I've done what you said and its still not working, maybe its the template, but I'm not competent enough to see why its not working.

What 2 homes, I don't see it. I see one home on the left and one on the top-right.

nah, if you click on a review, say War Games as its the first one, look at the breadcrumb, thats where the two home links are.

Ahh, it's the breadcrumb you are talking about! For that one I don't have a solution, disable it maybe ? :D
