Title: Joomla Hosting Reviews
Post by: eskwire on February 18, 2007, 12:28:19 PM
I have built a website that reviews all Joomla web hosting companies (http://www.joomlahostingreviews.com/component/option,com_jreviews/Itemid,28/).  After a couple of years of being a webhost, I learned that it is easier and cheaper to pay other people for their services.   ;)

www.JoomlaHostingReviews.com (http://www.JoomlaHostingReviews.com)

The site is up and running and has some content but I need many more web hosts that will serve Joomla based sites. I am working through some of the design considerations and all input is welcome.  How would you make the site look different?  All comments are welcome.

What thought process did you go through in selecting your current joomla host?

If you post who you are using for your joomla hosting company then I will add it to the joomla hosting review site, so that others will know who to use or more importantly know who not to use.

Thanks again!

First and for all I think there is to many ads on the page. It is rather hard to see what is review and what is advertisment.

Secondly I think the site is too slow - you sholud probably have to lover the score of your host!

I like the idea, but the site seems a bit empty right now. Try to try out more host youself (maybe you could get som hosting for free as an excange of the review - like games you get to review) and write more info (other than what is readable from the hosts themeslf) in the content/review that could be of interest. Right now I got the feeling that your goal is to redirect readers to the host - and I´m sure that is not the point at all!

Good luck with you site - it is a great idea!

Edit: One more thing, not related to jreviews. The "XHTML Valid" and "CSS Valid" buttions should be removed I think because I clicked on the and the site did not pass the tests.

Well it is a year later and I have just finished a redesign.   (The redesign did not take a year. :) )

A few more changes and updates to the content and jReviews pages but it is pretty much there.   I have posted this update in case anyone has any good ideas and can incorporate them into the final design.

Seroc.  You were absolutely right the previous host was not that good and even the current one runs slow periodically.  Much of the useful content was missing and the google ads took over the pages.  I have worked to improve those element for the new site.

New Design:
  • Removed many of the unneeded elements and text.
  • Created Custom Logo and Banner
  • Created a table of the best hosts on the home page.
  • Improved the custom fields on the reviews pages.  Added custom css and images there.
  • Created new Editor rating badge
  • New escriptions of each of the hosts

Home Page: Joomla Hosting Reviews (http://www.joomlahostingreviews.com/)
jReview Content Page: Host Gator Review (http://www.joomlahostingreviews.com/joomla-hosting/host-gator-review.html)

All comments are welcome! If you have hosted with one of the companies on the site a quick hosting review is appreciated!

Thanks!
