We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of a new major version of the GeoMaps add-on. We are calling it a major version because a lot of the code and theme files had to be refactored to be able to migrate from version 2 of the Google Maps API to version 3. This also means you get a faster maps experience! A few other highlights of this new version:

- Integration with the Google Maps Places Autocomplete API, which can be disabled in the configuration, so users get a list of suggestions as they type an address for proximity searches.

- Switched to the javascript geocoding API in proximity searches to avoid running into usage limits due to proximity searches.

- Fixed an issue with ratings appearing in infowindows even if the listing has ratings disabled.

- Fixed an issue with click2search urls in infowindows not matching the ones in the listing pages.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT UPGRADE WITHOUT FIRST REMOVING YOUR GEOMAPS CUSTOMIZATIONS FROM THE OVERRIDES FOLDER. OTHERWISE THE ADD-ON WILL MOST LIKELY BREAK FOR YOU. YOU NEED TO RE-DO YOUR CHANGES IN THE NEW VERSION.

This release wouldn't have been possible so soon without the help from Nikolay from http://www.sommerce.com. We enlisted his help to migrate the Google Maps API from v2 to v3, integrate the Google Maps Places Autocomplete functionality for proximity searches and convert the proximity search geocoding code from server to client side to stop proximity searches from counting towards geocoding usage limits.

Nikolay has offered to provide gift certificates for development work to JReviews users until the end of March. If you head over to his website http://www.sommerce.com and submit a request for work you can get a gift certificate ranging from $50 to $200. You can also see some of his past work in his eLance profile here https://www.elance.com/s/sommerce/

One thing I forgot to mention is that after the upgrade you will need to either clear the API Key in the add-on configuration or create a Google API Console account here code.google.com/apis/console and create a Google Maps API v3 there so you can use the new key in the configuration. The key is optional, but by creating one and using it you are able to track the usage of the API on your site and see how close you might be getting to usage limits.
