Getting started with jReviews

Basic setup

2. Setup custom fields - [optional].

You can skip this step and always come back. In order to setup custom fields you first need to create a field group and then create the fields for that group.

The field group concept is used so it's possible to group fields that are common across many categories and then assign the same groups to those categories. Each category can have more than one field group assigned to it.

The following example shows how to create the custom fields for the Hotel category previously created.

[FIELD GROUPS MANAGER]

Using the Field Groups Manager create a new group called "Hotel details" with the title "Details". The group name is only used for reference, while the title can be optionally displayed in the frontend.

New field group

[FIELDS MANAGER]

Now we click on the Fields Manager link in the jReviews menu and press the button to create the custom fields for the "Hotel details" field group. We start with amenities, which is a multiple select list and we make it a required field and allow access to all user groups.

New custom field

Once saved, we see more options for the field in the field list. We can select whether we want the field to appear in content and list views and whether the field should be used in advanced searches. Multiple select lists and checkboxes cannot be used for sorting because they allow more than one value to be selected.

Custom fields list

[ADD/EDIT] OPTIONS

To add the options to the multiple select list, we click on the Add/Edit link and enter the different ammenities. The text field is what is actually displayed to the user, while the value field is a reference value necessary for multilingual translation. You can also assign images to each option and they will get displayed in the content instead of the text.

Multiple choice field options setup

When we are done adding the field options, we press the button, and add a couple more fields for this example: attractions and average price. When we are done the fields list looks like this.

Custom fields list

Remember that for each field you can determine whether it appears in the lists, sorting select in lists, content and advanced search. You can also set permissions using Joomla's ACL groups to limit the users that have access to submission/editing of this field.

In order to get the fields to show up when you are submitting a new entry or review, you MUST assign the field groups to the criteria in the criteria manager. This is covered in the next step.
